My bathroom fan was making a racket until I swapped out the old plastic blades for a metal one from the local supply house.

The old ones had warped over the years, and the new set, which cost about $15, took maybe 20 minutes to install and now it's whisper quiet. Anyone have a good method for cleaning the ductwork without making a huge mess?

My old house had that issue. I used a shop vac with a long hose attachment to suck out the dust from the vent opening.

My uncle's garage in Toledo had vents so clogged you couldn't see the fins. He tried the shop vac trick but the dust was packed like clay. Ended up using a straightened coat hanger to break it up first, then the vacuum got the rest. Whole thing took him most of a Saturday and he was sneezing for days.
