Fixed a squeaky door with $3 of vegetable oil and felt like a genius
My bedroom door started squeaking around midnight a few days ago and I couldn't get it to stop. I googled quick fixes and saw someone recommend vegetable oil on the hinges. I grabbed a cheap bottle from the kitchen, dripped a few drops on each hinge pin, and opened and closed the door a few times. It went totally silent in about 2 minutes. Has anyone else tried this and had it work even longer than a week?

Gotta say my experience was different. Vegetable oil got gummy and actually made the hinge sticky after a month or two. WD-40 with the straw attachment worked way better for me.

My buddy Mark tried this and his door was quiet for like three months straight.

Three months is a long time for a door to stay quiet... usually they start squeaking again after a few weeks in my experience. @cole356 what kind of door was it? A hollow core interior door or a solid wood one? Those feel different and take lube differently. I tried the same trick on my front door a while back and it only lasted about two months before the noise came creeping back.
