Deleted the wrong folder during a phone cleanout at a coffee shop

I was at Blue Bottle in Portland killing time, deleting old screenshots on my phone. Somehow I hit the wrong selection and wiped out 3 years of photos, including some from my sister's wedding. I tried a recovery app right there but the free version only got back 12 files. Has anyone successfully restored photos after this kind of mistake, or am I stuck with the damage?

Three years of photos gone at a Blue Bottle in Portland, that's brutal. I nearly choked on my coffee reading that, because I did the same exact thing last spring at a Starbucks in Seattle, deleted my whole camera roll instead of just the screenshots. The free recovery apps are a joke, they teased me with a few random files and then demanded money for the rest. If you haven't already, stop using the phone entirely, every new photo or app update can overwrite the deleted ones. I ended up paying for a recovery service after panicking for a week, and it got maybe 60% back, but the wedding shots from the church were gone for good. You might have to accept some loss, but it's worth trying a desktop program before you give up completely.
