I had to pick between a big show in New York or a small local one

Last month, I had to choose between showing my digital art at a huge online convention or a small, local gallery's virtual tour. The big one promised more eyes but cost $200 to enter. I went with the local one because it was free and focused on our city's artists. For two weeks, I prepped a series of five animated loops specifically about local landmarks. The turnout was smaller, maybe 50 people, but I got three serious commission leads from people who really connected with the work. Has anyone else faced a choice like this between exposure and a focused audience?

Yeah, that local focus is smart. I did something similar last year and, like susanm56 said, the quality of the connection just hits different. Those three leads are way better than a sea of random clicks.

Always chased big crowds, but quality beats quantity.

I mean, my best shows were always the packed ones where the energy was just insane. Maybe it's just me but a big crowd can have its own kind of quality.
