Appreciation post: the brush pack I almost skipped turned out to be a game changer
I almost passed on that $15 brush pack from a small artist on Gumroad last month because I thought it was just another generic set, but after using those smudge brushes on my latest portrait I can't believe I ever worked without them, has anyone else had a random download completely change their workflow?

Jury's still out on this one but I'd say grab it if you see anything with a unique bristle shape or texture. I picked up a free pack on itch.io last year that had these weird jagged edge brushes and they make hair look way more realistic than anything I had before. Just test em on a quick sketch first to see if they actually feel right in your hand.

Friend of mine grabbed a brush pack from some random deviantArt page during a late night impulse buy. Turned out the brushes were scanned from actual vintage makeup brushes from some abandoned factory in Germany. The bristles were all messed up and uneven but somehow that made his digital fur look like real animal fur for the first time. He kept talking about it for months and now he refuses to use anything else for drawing wolves. Weirdest part is the pack was just called "trash brushes vol 2" and the download link looked like it was from 2006.
