Quick heads up about the old Fisher Body plant
Was poking around the Fisher Body plant on Piquette last week and saw some serious roof damage on the south wing. Water's been getting in for a while, rotting out the floor joists on the second level. If anyone's looking at that space for a project, get a structural engineer in there before you sign anything.

Water damage in old buildings is pretty common though. People like to freak out about it but half the time a few new joists and some patching is all it really needs. Those old factory floors were built way over spec back in the day, so some rot in a few spots isn't going to bring the whole thing down. I've walked through plenty of abandoned factories that looked way worse than what you described and they're still standing decades later. Unless the roof actually caved in or the walls are buckling, it's probably not as serious as you're making it sound. Get an engineer but don't let them scare you off the whole building.

Exactly. People act like old buildings are made of toothpicks and glue. That heavy timber stuff laughs at a little moisture compared to modern lumber. Bring an engineer but do your own looking first.
