Just wasted $2,500 on a zoning report for a Corktown property that was totally wrong
I hired a consultant from out of state to do a full zoning check before I made an offer on a small building last month. Their report said it was cleared for retail, but the city's actual records showed it was zoned for industrial use only. Has anyone found a local firm they trust to get this right the first time?

Couldn't you just double-check the city records yourself before hiring anyone?

Ugh, I tried that and it was a total nightmare! I ended up paying a local title company to handle it and got my answer in two days.

Totally agree, I tried that once and got lost in their awful online system for hours. Ended up calling three different offices just to find out which department even had the files. The whole process made me want to pull my hair out, and I still didn't get a clear answer. That's exactly why I finally just paid someone who knows their way around the city hall maze.
