Wasted $75 on a 'self-cleaning' litter box that my cat refuses to use
So I dropped $75 on this automatic litter box at a PetSmart in Columbus last month. The box rakes the clumps into a tray, but my cat took one look and peed on my laundry instead. I tried everything: different litter, putting her old box next to it for a week, even a treat on the edge. After 14 days I gave up and went back to the $12 plastic pan from the grocery store. Now I have a $75 robot sitting in my garage that I can't return. Was I dumb for expecting a machine to outsmart a cat, or are these things just a scam? Tell me your worst pet gadget fails.
Did the box come with a mat or did you put it on carpet? Cats can be picky about how the thing feels under their paws when they step in, and that rake noise spooks a lot of them too. I'm curious if you ever tried running it without the auto rake on, just to see if she'd at least step inside.
