Overheard a guy at the coffee shop say he draws for 10 minutes every morning no matter what
I tried it yesterday with a pen from my van and a napkin and my sketch of a parking meter actually looked like a parking meter for once, anyone else find that forcing a short daily habit works better than waiting for inspiration?

Force yourself to do something for five minutes and half the time you'll keep going for twenty because your brain stops making excuses. It's like that thing where people say they hate running until they actually get their shoes on and suddenly it's fine. The hardest part is always the starting, so tricking your brain into just a tiny bit of effort gets you past that wall.

Ugh, I gotta push back a bit on this one @garcia.tyler. Sometimes that five minute trick just makes me resent the task even MORE and then I drop it completely after the time's up.

Oh man, @garcia.tyler, that running example hits close to home. I ran cross country in high school and the coach would make us stand at the top of this hill for forty five seconds before the whistle. Staring down that thing, every excuse in the world would pop into my head. But as soon as my feet started moving, I'd be fine by the third stride. The five minute thing works about as well as the hill thing though. Sometimes you get to the bottom and realize you already did the hard part, other times you're just mad you got tricked into running downhill for no payoff.
