My cheap sketchbook fell apart after 2 weeks, found a fix with binder rings

Grabbed one of those $5 spiral sketchbooks from the art supply store on Grand Ave. Day 1 it was fine, but by day 4 pages started pulling out of the spiral binding. By day 14 I had loose pages everywhere. So I punched three holes through the spine margin with a standard hole punch, threaded those big metal binder rings through. Now I can add or remove pages whenever, plus it lays flat. Has anyone else found a hack for keeping cheap doodle pads from falling apart?

haha yes that's genius! I did something similar with a cheapo sketchbook from the drugstore, pages started flying out after a week so I just stapled the whole thing together down the spine. Looks janky but works way better than the original binding.

Honestly, the stapler trick is so relatable because my first fix was just aggressively taping the spine with packing tape. Looked like a mummy had a bad day at the craft store. Then the tape got all sticky and weird and pulled off more paper. So I fully respect the binder ring method, that's actually a system. Meanwhile I'm over here with a doodle pad held together by hope and a paperclip.
