Appreciation post: My first super clean doodle of a coffee cup after weeks of messy sketches
I finally drew a mug that doesn't look like a lumpy potato with a handle after 15 tries this month. Anyone else find that getting the little details right on a simple object feels better than finishing a big complicated drawing?

Lumpy potato with a handle" describes every couch I've ever drawn.

Did you try just sitting on the floor and drawing from memory instead?

Wait, you mean you actually started out thinking couches looked like something else? Because I was the same way for years. I used to sit there trying to make the cushions all perfect and straight, like they were supposed to be some kind of geometric shape. Then one day I just gave up and let the lines go all wobbly and lumpy, and suddenly every couch I drew looked way more real and lived-in. Now I can't even draw a couch without it looking like a misshapen blob with arms, and honestly that's the only way they ever look right.
