Your uncle handing over the cash that fast is the part that seems off to me. A $50 bet with a guy who laughs at everything? He basically paid you to tell a joke, which means the bet was never a real bet. Puns at Thanksgiving are pretty much free money if your family goes in for that kind of thing. My guess is he wanted to hear the joke and the money was just his way of making it fun. That's a cool uncle either way.
