Back when I started, I spent $150 on a 'lifetime' VPN subscription from some random site.
It worked for maybe six months before the company vanished and the app stopped connecting. I was out the cash and had to buy a real one anyway. Has anyone else been burned by those too-good-to-be-true lifetime deals?

Saw my buddy buy a lifetime password manager from some sketchy ad. The thing just stopped updating after a year and left all his logins stuck.

Yeah, it's the same with those "unlimited" cloud storage offers from companies you've never heard of. You see it with cheap phone chargers too, they work until they don't and you're back at square one. It feels like a tax on people trying to save a few bucks.

Oh man, I fell for one of those "lifetime" VPN deals a while back. Spent like twenty bucks and it worked great for about eight months before it just... died. Felt pretty smart until I had to explain to my bank why my card was getting hit with charges from Moldova.
