Rant: everyone pushes paid courses but I stuck with the free forum path and it worked better
Last spring I sat down with $400 set aside for a creator course and almost pulled the trigger on a $350 video bundle that every big name in my feed was pushing. Instead I joined two free creator forums, one here in Creators Hub and one smaller Discord, and worked through the same topics on my own pace. Six months in I've posted 40 pieces, and my skills grew faster from feedback on the forums than from the 3 sample lessons I peeked at. The paid bundle was all polished slides and theory, while the forum folks gave me hard notes on my actual thumbnails and intros in plain words. I get why people buy courses, it feels safer than digging through a thread, but I think most folks give up on the free route way too early. My first month here I got roasted on a post, and that roast taught me more than any lecture. If you went the paid route and it worked, I want to hear it, what did the course give you that a forum thread could not?
