My duplicate thumbnail file hunt ran 6 days, dumb fix was 4 clicks

I run a small YouTube channel and my viewer count went flat for a month. The analytics said people were clicking but leaving in 5 seconds. I dug through every old video and found 12 pairs of thumbnails that looked identical because I re-used the same PNG without renaming. That wasted 6 evenings comparing pixel by pixel in Photoshop. The fix was just sorting by file size and deleting the older copies after I verified upload dates in the studio dashboard. Has anyone else had a channel tank from lazy asset management like this, or was I just being an idiot?
