That deleted scene in my fantasy draft had a life of its own

Was cutting a side quest from my novel last Tuesday because the pacing felt off, so I pasted the whole thing into a separate doc instead of trashing it. Three days later I found myself reading it just for fun, and the secondary character in that scene basically shouted a better plot twist than my main arc had. I spent the weekend weaving his backstory into the final chapters, and now that 'deleted' material is the heart of the ending. It made me wonder how many discarded prompts or plot threads we bury too fast, so has anyone else kept a graveyard file that turned out to be their best fuel later?
