Paid $30 for a writing prompt generator app and got nothing but generic ideas
I grabbed this app called PromptForge last Tuesday thinking it would kickstart my stalled short story. Instead it spat out stuff like 'write about a door' and 'character finds a key'. I wasted a whole evening feeding it details and still got garbage. Has anyone actually gotten a usable prompt from one of these paid tools or should I stick to free reddit threads?

Did you catch that article about how most AI prompt generators are just pulling from the same recycled lists? Yeah, I read that a few weeks back, it basically said you can get the same results for free on r/WritingPrompts. I feel your pain though, $30 for 'find a key' is rough, that's like a whole pizza wasted.

Three weeks ago I bought one of those "horror story" prompt packs for $20 and the first one was literally "the house is haunted by something that isn't a ghost." I found that exact prompt on a Reddit thread from 2019. I mean, I get that some people just want things organized for them, but it's basically paying someone to copy-paste stuff you could find in five minutes. And the worst part is the "exclusive" ones are usually just the same three tropes with different names, like "cursed object" vs "haunted keepsake" vs "evil heirloom." Honestly, it's made me way more careful about what I actually spend money on now.
