Outlining beats freewriting for me, 60 drafts later

I spent 3 months freewriting every prompt and got nowhere, then tried a simple 3-act outline and finished a full short story in 2 days. The outline gave me a path so I could actually use the weird details my brain came up with. Anyone else find structure saves their prompts, or am I just too scatterbrained?
