My outline was a fortress until I wrote zero of them for a week

I used to map out every single chapter with color coded note cards and a whiteboard. Took me 2 hours per outline and I still ended up deleting half my scenes. Last month I just opened a blank page and typed whatever came out for 5 days straight. The story felt messy but it actually moved. The characters did stuff I never planned. Now I only jot down one sentence for where the next chapter needs to land, then let the words find the way. Has anyone else tried ditching the plan or am I just a chaotic writer at heart?
