I spent $80 on a fancy writing app and it burned me hard

Everyone online kept raving about this one writing tool that organizes your prompts and stories. I figured it would be a game changer for my creative writing hobby. So I dropped $80 on the yearly subscription without really testing it first. Turns out the whole interface is cluttered and the auto-save feature kept deleting my paragraphs. I lost a 2,000 word short story concept that I'd been building for days. Now I'm back to using Google Docs for free and it honestly works better. Has anyone else paid for a 'must have' writing tool that totally let you down?

I spent $40 on one of those "distraction free" writing apps and it just made my screen look like a boring spreadsheet. I lost a whole chapter because I accidentally hit some keyboard shortcut I didn't even know existed. Honestly, Google Docs and a good playlist keep me more focused anyway.

Gasped out loud when you said you lost a whole chapter to a keyboard shortcut. I would have thrown my laptop out the window, no joke. Those "distraction free" apps are such a scam, they just strip away all the safety nets you didn't know you needed. Like, give me back my undo button and my autosave (even if it's clunky), you know? I feel like these apps are designed by people who never actually write anything longer than a tweet.
