DAE buy one of those $40 prompt card decks and feel like a sucker?
I got suckered into buying one of those fancy prompt card decks at a Barnes and Noble in Columbus about 5 months ago. It was $40 for 100 cards, so basically 40 cents per prompt, and I figured it would get my creative brain going on days when I felt stuck. Well, 90 of those cards say stuff like 'write about a door' or 'describe a color to someone who cannot see' and I could have come up with those on a napkin for free. The other 10 are actually kind of neat, but 10 decent prompts for 40 bucks works out to 4 dollars each, which feels rough. I keep them on my desk and flip through them sometimes, and every time I do I feel a little dumb. My friend Dana said I should just return them, but it has been way too long for that now. Has anyone found a cheaper way to get fresh prompts, like a free newsletter or a library book, or do I just need to get better at making my own list?
