Bought a $50 course on writing dialogue. Complete waste.
Saw this ad for a writing prompt masterclass. Said it would fix my dialogue problems. Paid $50 on impulse. The whole thing was just generic advice like show don't tell. Nothing about actual prompts or exercises. Anyone find a free resource that actually helps with writing conversations?

Hmm but is it really the course's fault though? I mean if you went in expecting magic prompts to fix everything, maybe the problem is more about how you're using the basics. Like show don't tell is boring but have you actually tried applying it to a real scene? Take two characters arguing about pizza toppings and force yourself to describe their hands or their breathing instead of just putting 'he said angrily'. That one tip alone could change how your dialogue flows. Maybe the real value is learning to hate the generic advice enough to figure out your own way past it.

Used to roll my eyes at advice like that, but you’re actually right. The pizza argument trick just made me rewrite a whole scene I was stuck on. Might be onto something with that whole "hate it until it clicks" approach.
