Had a guy argue his oil change was free because he bought the car here 6 years ago

So this dude rolls in with a 2018 sedan, I pull the dipstick and it's basically sludge. I tell him $49.99 for the standard change. He goes, 'No, I bought this car from this dealership in 2019, so the oil changes should be free forever.' I tried explaining that's not how any shop works, but he pulled up some faded paper from his glovebox that had a 'lifetime oil changes' stamp from the previous owner's used car lot that went under in 2020. I ended up showing him the fine print on his old paperwork where it said 'valid only at original point of sale' and he still argued for 10 minutes. Told me I was just 'trying to squeeze money out of loyal customers' and peeled out. What's the wildest warranty claim someone has tried to pull on you guys?

Used to think people were reasonable about warranty stuff. Not anymore.

Yeah @emmawood, I used to think it was all fine too... but people really push it now.

Used to be in the "it's just a warranty, relax" camp myself. Figured people were making a big deal out of nothing. Then I watched my friend try to return a laptop keyboard that was missing keys after three months. The company hit him with that "normal wear and tear" excuse and a $75 restocking fee on top of it. Completely changed my view once I saw how companies game the system to avoid paying out. Now I get why people record everything and save every receipt and screenshot. It's not being dramatic, it's being smart when the whole game is rigged against you.
