A lady at my coffee shop tried to pay for her latte with a Chuck E. Cheese token
She was totally serious, holding it out like a quarter and saying 'this should cover it, right?' I had to explain it wasn't real money, and she got mad and said she'd been using them for weeks. Honestly, it made me wonder what other weird stuff people try to pass off as payment. Has anyone else had a customer try to pay with something totally not cash?

Honestly that makes you wonder about the people who took those tokens before... like how many workers just gave up and let it slide. Maybe they were new or just having a bad day. It points to a bigger problem with training and people not wanting to cause a scene. Someone could get fired for a till being short over fake money, but the customer just walks away mad. The whole thing is unfair on the person behind the counter.

Honestly, a firm but kind "sorry, I can't take that" works best. You have to shut it down right away before they get their hopes up. Making a joke about it can backfire and make them think you're being rude. Just point to the real money in the till and say company policy. What are they gonna do, call your manager over a game token?
