Saw a new operator skip hand signals and just use hand gestures yesterday
Was watching a younger guy on a Grove RT at a job site off Highway 17 yesterday, he was trying to talk to his oiler through a phone instead of giving proper hand signals. Nearly had a load swing into a dumpster. Makes me wonder, how many of us still actually use the old standard signals from the NCCCO book?

Man, isn't that exactly the kind of shortcut that gets someone hurt? Hand signals might feel old school but they keep everyone safe and on the same page.

Start with a small crew and watch how fast miscommunication happens. I've seen guys nearly lose fingers because someone assumed a rig was clear. Hand signals are clunky at first but you never second guess what you saw.
