Remember when you had to actually feel the load on the boom?

I mean, I see a lot of new operators in Chicago just staring at the LMI screen and not looking at the cable itself. The screen says you're fine, but if you don't watch the angle of the cable coming off the drum, you can still get a nasty two-block. My old foreman, Sal, drilled that into me back in '08. Anyone else still teaching that, or is it all digital now?

Seriously, the screen is way safer than old guesswork.

Wait, you're telling me people don't even watch the cable angle anymore? That's wild. I saw a guy last week who almost spooled out all his cable because he was just glued to the screen. The LMI doesn't show you the wrap on the drum, man. You can still get that horrible slack and snap if you're not looking at the real thing. Sal was right, that's basic stuff they gotta learn.

What's @veraj53's take on that slack risk?
