Just dropped $150 on a new headset for the cab

My old one had a short in it, and I missed a hand signal in a tight spot. The new one is crystal clear, but I'm wondering if I should have just gotten the $80 model. What do you guys use for clear comms on a loud site?

My buddy runs a crew that does a lot of highway work. He swears by the $150 range for headsets after his guy misheard a dump truck backup alarm over a cheap set. Said the extra noise canceling is the difference between hearing "clear" and hearing "clear over a jackhammer." For a tight spot, that seems worth it.

Mark's buddy has a point. I saw a guy on a site last year using those foam earplug headphones from a gas station. Foreman yelled "shut it down" and this dude just gave a thumbs up and kept pouring concrete. The $150 headset isn't about comfort, it's about not turning a backhoe into a runaway tank because all you heard was "go" instead of "whoa.

Read a safety report saying good comms cut site accidents by half.
