DAE think those load charts on the app were a gimmick till I tried one on a 60 ton in Tulsa
Ngl I rolled my eyes when the young guy on my crew kept pulling out his phone to check picks instead of the book in the cab. Last Tuesday we were setting 12,000 pound panels on a job off Sheridan and he showed me the app had the radius and boom angle already worked out. I checked it against my paper chart twice and it matched both times. Honestly I still trust the book over a screen that can die on me. Curious if anybody else runs an app in the seat or if I am just old and stubborn.
Man, you are not wrong about the screen dying. I had my phone go black in the middle of a pick last summer and that was the longest ten seconds of my life. The app is nice for a quick check but nothing beats a chart that never needs a charge. I keep both, phone in my pocket, book on the dash. If the numbers match like they did for you, then great, use it as a backup. Just don't let the kid talk you into tossing the book out of the cab.
