Update: I'm out $75 on a 'professional' color remover kit that didn't work
Bought it for a client who wanted to go from black to auburn, and it barely lifted one level. Had to rebook her and use my usual products, which cost me more time and product. Has anyone had a good result with a different brand for stubborn color?

That Color Oops stuff from the drugstore worked better for me than some pro kits I've tried. I had a client with box black that was two years old and it actually lifted enough for a dark brown. It's messy and smells awful, but it got the job done when a more expensive remover failed. The trick is to really work it into the hair and leave it on longer than the box says. I keep a bottle on hand now for those tough cases.

Yeah, that stuff saved me from a bad blue tint once.

That longer processing time @james_campbell12 mentioned can be risky on already damaged hair. I've seen it cause serious breakage when someone left a remover on for 45 minutes on fragile ends. The smell is from sulfur, and it's strong because the formula is pretty harsh. For a client's hair, I always do a test strand first with any remover, even a drugstore one, to check the integrity. It's not just about lift, it's about what's left for you to work with after.
