Question about the inspector in Mesa who told me to stop texturing before caulk
Last month an inspector in Mesa flagged my drywall prep on a 3,200 sq ft job because I was spraying texture before caulking the joints. He said the texture bridges the gap and the caulk can't grab, so it cracks in 6 months. Now I caulk first and wait a day, but it adds a full day to every punch list, has anyone found a faster way that still passes?
Wait, so he wants the caulk under the texture? That seems backwards from how I was taught. I always thought caulk goes on last so it can flex with the joint and stay paintable. If you caulk first, how do you keep the texture gun from blowing it out of the seam when you spray over it? Genuinely asking because I have never heard of caulking before texture on a big job like that.
