I finally caught a flat earther in a logical trap and it backfired

Was at a diner off I-10 in Tucson around 3am after my shift and this guy at the next table started going on about how NASA fakes the horizon curve. I asked him if he'd ever actually watched a ship disappear hull first over the ocean, and he just said 'that's refraction bro' and went back to his eggs. Anyone else find that no amount of real world examples breaks through with these folks?

Yeah that's not quite how refraction works on that scale but good luck telling them that. You can't logic someone out of a position they didn't logic themselves into.

Hits me that nobody ever asks flat earthers why their model shows the sun moving in a completely different path than what every satellite and pilot actually sees. If the government is faking all that data, don't you think at least one pilot would slip up and accidentally fly into the ice wall by now?

I saw this one guy on a fishing forum say he spent 3 hours showing a flat earther the sextant angles from his boat and the guy just said "your sextant is broken by government magnets" or something... it's like they have an answer for everything because the answer doesn't have to make sense. The thing that gets me is they'll trust some random YouTube video over their own two eyes seeing a ship go over the curve.
