Update: I tried a new trowel blade against my old one on a garage floor last month
Had a 400 square foot garage pour in Spokane and decided to run a test. Used my regular 14 inch magnesium trowel on one half and a new 14 inch stainless steel blade on the other. The stainless felt weird at first, almost too slick, but once the concrete hit the right stage it was like butter. Zero drag, no sticking, and it left a finish so tight you could see your reflection. My old trowel needed way more water and elbow grease to get close. The stainless just glided and saved me about an hour of hard work. Anyone else made the switch and noticed a big difference in how long the blade lasts?

That "like butter" feeling with stainless is exactly why I switched too.

Used to think it was all hype. That smooth glide totally changed my mind.

Honestly, is the extra cost really worth it? I mean, I tried a stainless blade last year and yeah, it was smooth, but it got nicked up so fast on a job with a little gravel in the mix. My old magnesium trowel is beat up but it still works fine, and I don't have to baby it. Maybe it's just me, but that "like butter" feeling doesn't help if the blade is too soft and needs replacing sooner. I'd rather put in a little more work with a tougher tool.
