Rant: Heard a guy at the supply yard say 'it's just a sidewalk' to skip the vapor barrier

I was picking up a load of mesh in Tacoma yesterday and overheard a crew lead telling his new guy they didn't need a vapor barrier for a residential walk because 'it's just a sidewalk'. That's how you get heaving and spalling after two winters. It takes maybe an extra hour and a couple hundred bucks in material to do it right. How do you guys handle seeing shortcuts that you know will cause problems down the road?

That attitude is why we have so many callbacks...

Totally get where you're coming from, sam_thomas. Seeing that kind of sloppy work drives me up a wall (it just creates more problems for everyone later). It's so frustrating when people don't take the time to do the job right the first time. That mindset of just getting it done, no matter the quality, really does cost more in the long run.
