PSA: I quit buying pre-mixed bags and finally built my own mix for small pours
Bagged mix was fine for years but I got tired of the $8 per bag price tag, so now I keep separate sand and cement in the truck and mix small batches by hand for anything under a yard, and a form guy in Tulsa showed me his 3 to 1 ratio he has used for 12 years on steps and sidewalks that has not cracked once.

So the Tulsa form guy cracked the code after 12 years and all it took was a 3 to 1 ratio? Meanwhile the rest of us have been out here paying eight bucks a bag like suckers at the checkout counter. That price tag stings every single time, especially when you only need a little scoop for a small step repair. Keeping sand and cement loose in the truck is the move, way cheaper per batch once you stop buying the pretty bags. Just hope your back agrees with the hand mixing part, because mine files complaints after about the third wheelbarrow.
