Overheard a guy at the supply yard, made me rethink my power trowel blades

Standing in line at A-1 Concrete Supply in Des Moines yesterday, this old timer told the counter guy he only runs steel pans on fresh slabs, never during the burn. I always just threw them on whenever the surface felt close, and last month I burned a 2,400 square foot garage floor in 20 minutes. He said it's about heat buildup, not just timing. Has anyone else switched to finishing blades for the final pass only?

Damn, that heat theory makes total sense. Steel pans trap way too much friction early.
