Hit 40 yards of concrete placed in a single day on a tight city job
We had this crazy job downtown last week, a new curb and gutter run on a main street. The city gave us a tight window, like 7am to 5pm before they reopened the road. My crew and I just kept our heads down, mixing, pouring, and finishing. When we cleaned up and I ran the numbers, we had placed 40 yards. I've never hit that much in one shift, especially with all the foot traffic and weird angles we had to work around. It felt insane because we usually average maybe 25 on a good day. It just showed me what a solid, focused crew can do when everyone knows their job. Has anyone else ever been shocked by a number they hit on a job that seemed impossible at the start?

Sounds like you rushed it honestly, that much concrete in one day on a city street probably means the quality suffered somewhere.

Totally disagree with you there, @gibson.sarah. A good crew with the right setup can pour a city block in a day and do it right. It's about planning, not rushing. The mix and the finish are what matter most. Seen it done well plenty of times.

You're right that planning matters, but "seen it done well" doesn't mean it's the norm. A city block pour in a day puts huge stress on the whole process, from the trucks to the finishers. Even with a great crew, that timeline almost always means corners get cut, even if they're small ones. The mix can start setting before the finish crew can properly work it. I've just seen too many rushed jobs that look fine for a year and then show problems.
