That $30 USB-C hub kept killing my onsite data transfers, here's the workaround
I do a lot of drive cloning for clients in Austin and kept losing speed on a cheap hub I bought last spring. After three failed backups in one week, I tested it with a USB meter and saw the power draw dropping to 0.4A under load. Switched to a powered hub with its own AC adapter, same cable, same SSD, and the speed jumped from 80MB/s to 450MB/s on the first try. Now I carry a small inline power injector for those older laptops with weak USB ports. Has anyone else run into this weirdness with bus-powered hubs on Dell or Lenovo models specifically?

Man, that power drop sounds brutal. Glad the powered hub fixed it.
