My server install trip got messed up by a local power issue

I drove to a client's office in a different state to set up their new network server. Right in the middle of it, the building had a power flicker that zapped the mainboard. Had to scramble to borrow a spare from a nearby tech shop I found online. Ngl, how do you handle parts failures when you're far from your usual suppliers?

Ugh, power flickers are the worst... especially when you're miles from home. I used to think carrying extra parts was just extra weight and hassle. But a similar zap-fest at a remote site a while back completely changed my tune. Now I get what @paul286 means about planning for surprises... they really do find you. It's all about having a backup plan for your backup plan these days.

Nah, over-prepping is just a trap. All that extra gear just bogs you down and costs a fortune for stuff you'll probably never use. Most of the time, if something breaks, you're better off just calling it a day and heading back to the shop. The real skill is knowing how to work around a problem with what you've got, not carrying a whole spare truck in the back. Plus, half that backup junk just gets lost or goes bad sitting in a box.
