A client's 6 year old PC died twice in one week because of one thing I missed on the bench
This happened 2 weeks ago at my shop in Mesa, a woman brought in a Dell desktop that kept shutting off while she worked from home. I swapped the power supply, cleaned the dust out, and it ran fine for 3 days, then she called back saying it died again. Turns out the wall outlet by her desk was half melted and putting out 105 volts instead of 120, which was cooking the PSU over and over. I always check the outlet now before I even open a case, and a $12 outlet tester from the hardware store saved me from eating a second free repair. Anyone else get burned by a bad outlet before you started testing the wall first?
