My dad's silent car rule is the only way to commute with kids.
Forcing conversation during drives (especially with kids) just stresses everyone out more than rush hour.

Made a 'quiet time' rule for our after-school drives. We all just listen to soft music or nothing at all for the first fifteen minutes. It totally cut down on the backseat arguments and my stress levels! The kids actually seem more relaxed when we get home too.

A parenting podcast recently called car silence a "reset button" for overstimulated families.

Wow, I used to feel guilty for wanting quiet in the car. But hearing it called a reset button totally flipped my view. Isn't it crazy how a little silence can calm everyone down? I guess we all need a break from the noise sometimes. My kids actually behave better after those quiet drives.
