Spent 4 hours on a simple bolt because the thread was stripped inside the housing

It was just a flange bolt on a pump housing in 40 feet of murk. Had to swim up twice for a left-hand tap set and still ended up cutting a new slot with a hacksaw blade. Anyone know a better fix for a stripped internal thread down there?

Read about using a helicoil kit for that. You can install it wet, supposedly. Sounds easier than what you went through.

Actually, you can't install a helicoil wet. The hole needs to be clean and dry for the threadlocker to work right. Doing it wet is a good way to have it fail later.
