I keep seeing divers skip the pre-dive check on their comms box, and it's a huge risk.
My tender on a job in Mobile Bay last week caught a corroded pin in my umbilical connector that I would have missed, which could have left me without voice at 80 feet.

Man, I used to rush through that check all the time. Figured if the light came on, it was good. Hearing about your tender finding that bad pin? That's the kind of thing that makes you stop. Changes the whole routine from a chore to something you just do.

Buddy of mine had his comms cut out during a deco stop on a wreck dive. The box passed the quick tap check but a wire was barely hanging on. He spent twenty minutes staring at his gauge not knowing if anyone was coming. That silence changes how you think about a five minute pre-dive routine.

Skipping that check is like trusting a vending machine with your last dollar. Learned that the hard way after my own "silent disco" at 60 feet when a mic decided to quit. That little bit of corrosion is a sneaky thing, and it never shows up when you're nice and dry on deck. Your tender earning their keep right there. That voice link is the only thing keeping you from being a very expensive, lonely rock at the bottom.
