Comparing dollar bin diving vs curated pulls for building a collection

I spent like 6 months just grabbing random dollar bin books every time I hit the shop, thinking I was saving cash. But I ended up with a stack of random issues I didn't actually care about and it took up all my shelf space. So last month I switched to ordering a curated pull list from my local store in Portland, picking maybe 5 specific runs I wanted to follow. The difference was huge, my money goes to stuff I actually wanna read and I don't have 40 copies of whatever was on sale. Plus the shop owner gives me a heads up on variants for the series I follow now. Has anyone else found that focusing on one creator or character's run saves you the headache of clutter?

yeah but @robinson.hannah let me tell you about the curse of dollar bin digging. I've got like five copies of some forgotten 90s event because it was a buck. Curated pulls keep me from hoarding junk I'll never read and actually let me finish a story arc without gaps.

Interesting take, but I've found more hidden gems in the dollar bins than any curated list ever gave me. Doesn't the thrill of the hunt lose something when you're just getting handed the same stuff everyone else is reading?
