French press vs aeropress for camping, one is way easier to clean
I spent last weekend out near Sedona with my brother and we each brought our own brewing setup to compare. He had his French press and I had my Aeropress, and we did the same beans from a local roaster in Flagstaff. The French press made a nice cup but the cleanup was brutal, grounds everywhere, sludge in the bottom, and we had to rinse it like three times with limited water. My Aeropress took maybe 4 minutes total including pressing and popping the puck straight into a bag. The taste was honestly pretty close, but when you're trying to pack up camp before the sun gets too hot, that time and mess difference matters a lot. Has anyone else switched to the Aeropress specifically for outdoor trips, or do you still deal with the French press for the bigger batch?

That "grounds everywhere, sludge in the bottom" part is exactly why I ditched my French press for camping, heard the same complaint from a buddy who does bike touring out west. The cleanup with limited water is the real dealbreaker, and popping the puck into a bag is just way too easy to go back. I still keep the French press for car camping with a big group, but solo trips the Aeropress wins every time.
