Went to a local coding meetup and felt totally lost after 10 minutes
I finally worked up the nerve to visit a coding meetup at a library downtown last Tuesday. There were maybe 15 people there and they were talking about something called async functions and API endpoints right away. I barely know what a function is from my solo learning on free sites. The organizer was nice enough but kept saying stuff like 'just use a try catch block' and I had no clue what that meant. I left after about 45 minutes because I felt like I was wasting everyone's time. Has anyone else gone to a group meetup as a true beginner and actually gotten something out of it?

You mentioned the guy saying "just use a try catch block" and that's where I'd stop him next time. What was your main goal for going in the first place, like to build something specific or just see what the vibe was like? Because if you went there hoping to learn from scratch, those meetups usually assume you already know the basics from a proper course or bootcamp.

@cole994 that try catch example alone is a good reason to skip those meetups if you ask me.
