Found out my city recycles only 9% of its plastic, so I stopped sorting it
Checked Portland's own waste report last month and saw the real number was 9% versus the 50% they print on the bin, so now I want to know if sorting even matters or if I should be pushing for a bottle bill instead.
Wait, you mean the little number on the bin is basically fan fiction? Nine percent is somehow worse than doing nothing at all because at least doing nothing doesn't waste my Sunday afternoon. The whole sorting ritual is starting to feel like a chore designed to make us feel good while the actual system just dumps it all in the same pile. Maybe we should all stop rinsing yogurt cups and start showing up at city hall with pitchforks instead.
