Three months of using a rotary brush finally paid off
I had a regular customer in a 1920s house in Cleveland whose chimney was caked with about a quarter inch of creosote. I kept hitting it with just standard rods and brushes, but it wasn't budging. Finally broke down and bought a rotary cleaning kit with a poly whip, and after three passes over two visits, the difference was night and day. Got the full sweep done in under an hour with barely any mess left behind. Has anyone else found a specific brush that works better for heavy glaze buildup?

Honestly, wait, you got a full sweep in under an hour on a 1920s house?

That under an hour claim had me skeptical too but honestly the poly whip on a rotary setup is a game changer. I switched to one last year and it cut my time on heavy glaze jobs by more than half.

Wait, has anyone actually tested how much dust the poly whip kicks up compared to a standard rotary? @grantf73 I noticed on my last big job that even with decent extraction, that thing sends fine particles everywhere. Might be worth throwing a cheap dust meter in the mix to see if the time savings are actually worth the cleanup.
