Cleaned a 40 year old flue in Albany last Tuesday and the before and after on the draft was night and day
Same firebox, same wood, but the smoke went from rolling into the room to pulling clean in about 90 minutes of work. Anyone else notice how much of a difference a proper top down sweep makes compared to just running a brush up from the bottom?
That "smoke rolling into the room to pulling clean" part is the whole ballgame. Buddy of mine had the same thing in his place, 1920s house, flue had maybe 30 years of junk built up. He ran a brush up from the bottom and it barely helped. Then he got a guy out who did it top down with a weighted rope and a whip, knocked loose a bunch of stuff that was stuck to the sides up high. Draft went from useless to pulling hard in one afternoon.
