Brush set or rotary kit, I gambled on the rotary and paid for it
Picked the $240 rotary cleaning kit over a basic brush set for a 3-story flue last month and the flex shaft snapped halfway up, so now I'm stuck borrowing a hand brush from Dave and wondering if I should've just stuck with the old standbys, anyone else regret spending big on the fancy gear?
Did you run the flex shaft dry or keep it lubed up? I've seen guys snap those things because they're cranking at full RPM with zero grease, not because the gear's junk. My rotary kit's been through a dozen commercial jobs, including a clogged boiler flue that would've wrecked a brush set for good. Brushes just push soot around, rotary actually clears it out. Maybe the real issue is you went cheap on the accessory heads, that's where the strain builds up.
