Debated between a thermometer gun and a probe for my grill. The gun won by a mile.

I was always team probe for checking steak temps at the line, but last Sunday I grabbed a cheap infrared gun from Home Depot for 20 bucks. Tried it on a ribeye and a pan of veggies at 450 degrees and it was spot on in 2 seconds flat. Has anyone else switched from probes to guns for quick temp checks?

Wait till you drop the gun in the sink.

See I actually have to disagree here. I've dropped mine like three times now and it's still going strong. Those things are built tougher than people give them credit for. Unless you're talking about a really cheap one, they can handle a dunk in the sink and still fire just fine after you dry it out. The bigger issue is if you drop it in mud or sand, that's what actually jams them up. Water is mostly a non issue unless you leave it soaking for hours.

Three drops in and still going? @hollyl45 you got lucky for real. My buddy had his Glock hit the sink and the extractor was toast after that, had to send it out for a repair. YMMV big time with manufacturing runs and all that.
